This past Tuesday and Wednesday, we took part in University of Chile’s International Workshop “Cell Culture Perspectives in Biomanufacturing”, hosted by Ziomara Gerdtzen from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Materials at University of Chile.
Two days of discussions that reminded us that cell culture is not only a research tool but, the backbone of modern biomanufacturing.
Kris Blanchard, CEO, gave the talk titled “Entrepreneurial and Product Development Challenges in the Alternative Meat Industry”, where he shared some of the lessons learned developing next-gen products through precision fermentation and cell-based technology.
The workshop offered a comprehensive view of modern biomanufacturing, from omics and metabolic modeling to GMP practices, host engineering, and scale-up strategies. It also highlighted the rapid progress of Chile’s biotech ecosystem and the importance of coordinated efforts between academia, industry, and startups.
A big thank-you to the organizing committee, the speakers, and everyone who joined the discussions.
