At Luyef Biotechnologies, safety is the core pillar of our innovation. That is why we have integrated the Soft Agar assay as a critical step within our protocols.
This method is considered a gold standard in vitro assay for evaluating cellular malignancy. Unlike normal cells, which require adhesion to a solid surface to proliferate, tumor cells can form colonies in semi-solid matrices such as soft agar. Therefore, growth in this type of environment is a strong indicator of potential tumorigenic behavior.
Our Senior Scientist and Team Leader of the Cell Culture Division, Carolina Di Santo, explains:
“While at Luyef we use this assay to rule out malignancy in our immortalized cell lines for cultivated meat production, the methodology can also be applied to evaluate drugs or bioactives in cancer models. In this context, cellular colonies can be stained and quantified. Our laboratory is fully equipped with all the necessary materials to perform this analysis.”
With these in-house capabilities, Luyef not only ensures the safety of our own developments, but also opens its doors to collaborate with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in validating their next innovations.
