Kris Blanchard on Why Alternative Proteins Should Be a Strategic Priority for LATAM

Our CEO, Kris Blanchard, shares his perspective:

“The case for alternative proteins is now backed by concrete economic data, reinforcing what many in the food and biotech industries have been saying for years.

A new analysis led by Systemiq, with support from The Good Food Institute, shows that with moderate and sustained public support, alternative proteins could add €111 billion per year to the EU economy by 2040 and create 400,000+ high-quality jobs across the value chain.
These outcomes don’t happen by accident. They require long-term vision, smart public investment, and enabling regulation.

But this opportunity is not unique to Europe. Latin America shares many of the same structural conditions and, in some cases, clear advantages:
• strong agro-industrial base
• access to biomass and side streams
• world-class scientific talent
• an urgent need to diversify exports

The real question isn’t whether this model can be replicated in LATAM.
It’s whether we choose to treat alternative proteins and cellular agriculture as a strategic sector, rather than a niche.

At Luyef Biotechnologies, we’re working precisely in that direction: building this emerging industry from Chile, with a global outlook.”
